Gwyneth Paltrow Blames the Hate She Gets on Being Successful and Attractive
Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about her "difficult" divorce from Chris Martin, and why she always seems to receive so much flack from the media.
The 44-year-old actress thinks that founding luxury lifestyle website Goop could have something to do with it, tellingThe Edit: "It's got a few layers to it. People were fine with me as an actress, but with Goop it was like, 'Stay in your lane.' Women in general get a lot of pushback, especially if you're successful and attractive...I'm not saying I'm attractive. I mean when you're considered attractive."
The star also revealed that she wanted to turn the trauma of her divorce from Coldplay's Martin into "something positive" by putting their children first.
"I wanted to turn my divorce into a positive. What if I didn't blame the other person for anything, and held myself 100 percent accountable? What if I checked my own s*** at the door and put my children first?" she continued.
"And reminded myself about the things about my ex-husband that I love, and fostered the friendship? What I put myself through to get there was the most difficult thing I've ever done in my life."
Paltrow had been mocked by some for coining the term "conscious uncoupling" as a euphemism for her separation from Martin, but she has no regrets, despite admitting it's "dorky" wording.
"People are coming around. I know it's a dorky term, but it's very worthwhile. I'm always the person who gets s*** at first, but then later people say, 'Hey, maybe that's a good idea.' I don't mind," she concluded.
The former couple—who officially divorced last year—remain friends and share custody of Apple, 13, and Moses, 11.
